Happenings at the Guild
With star-crossed young lovers, swordplay, and memorable moments, Romeo and Juliet is one of the quintessential stories of all time. As a capstone to our 50th Anniversary Theatrical Season, the Arts Guild will be offering our production of Romeo and Juliet in Central Park on August 6-14. Our production will be presented in promenade staging. Promenade staging means that there will not be a formal stage in the park, but the action of the play will move through acting areas throughout the park, and the audience will be invited to follow along. These acting areas will include the stone circle in the center of the park, grassy areas, and even the playground! Promenade staging is a very energetic and engaging way to present this familiar story. There will be, of course, chairs available for those who are not comfortable standing or sitting on the grass.
Before the show, come to the park for a picnic! Vendors will be in Central Park from 5-7pm selling such summertime treats as hot dogs, chips, and ice cream treats. Everyone is welcome to come to Central Park for a picnic before the show.
This production is directed by Jeanne Willcoxon with stage combat choreography by Todd Edwards. The cast includes Dick Brown, Elizabeth Buckheit, Nolan Byhre, Joey Cherney, Lauren Cummins, Susan Dunhaupt, Jordan Ett, Brendon Etter, Henry Ganey, Jack Johnson, Tim Komatsu, Nathan Kuhlman, Louisa Lawler, Steve Lawler, Michael Lessard, Julia Mandsager, Faye Merrit, Stacy Mittag, Mickey Morstad, Tristan Rholl, and Patrick Walker.
Come to Central Park to enjoy this classic romance al fresco! Performances will be held in Central Park on August 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, and 14 at 7:00pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors and are available online on our plays page or by calling the Arts Guild at 507-645-8877.
Goals for 2010-2011

The Board of Directors meets the last Monday of the month, 7 pm (except on holidays; please call to verify). Then in September 2010 we will hold open elections for new board members.

Marcela Lorca, choreographer and theater director for the Guthrie Theater, was the speaker for the Arts Guild and Northfield Public Library birthday celebration on April 25. She gave a beautiful and moving talk. Click here to read it and be inspired once again about the place of the arts in life and community.
