Celebration of Members & Volunteers
The Annual Meeting of the Northfield Arts Guild will be held at the Northfield Arts Guild at 304 Division Street, Downtown, on Thursday, May 15, 2008, 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The event will be followed by a NAG Afterparty at the Contented Cow (next door to the Guild) starting at 7:45.
The Annual Meeting includes a lively look at the previous year’s organizational activities and an upbeat discussion regarding the current state of the organization and what to expect in the coming year . There is no charge for this event. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available at the Contented Cow. There will be music and high spirits throughout the evening (but especially at the Cow). All are welcome.
The Northfield Arts Guild presents Saturday Morning Live, an original teen version of Saturday Night Live skits, songs and improvisational comedy. This event is in its 11th season under the direction of Bob Gregory Bjorklund. Come join in on the political commentary, the entertainment, and the sheer fun. There is ONE SHOW ONLY only… Saturday, May 17, 1:00 pm at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater, 411 W. Third Street. Admission is free.
Mark your calendar for May 17th, the Arts Guild's Spring Dance Recital. If you like dance, you'll love this performance showcasing many genres and dancers with many different levels of experience. From the 3 year old "Creative Dancers" to the upper level Ballet and Modern Dance classes, this recital is sure to be a treat. Other dance forms included are tap, jazz, Mexican folkloric and Irish step.
The performance will be held at 3 pm at the Northfield Middle School Auditorium; tickets $8 for adults and $5 for kids (children under 5 free.)
The Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Paul Niemisto, will be playing with jazz pianist and clarinetist Butch Thompson in a program of American memories on Sat., May 17th, 7:00 p. m. at the historic Sheldon Theatre, 443 W. 3rd St (at East Ave.) in Red Wing. In a concert featuring everything from "Over the Rainbow" to Scott Joplin ragtime to a Leroy Anderson Centennial Tribute, this varied concert has something to delight everyone.
Butch Thompson is widely known in the area for his piano variety and improvisations. He lectured last fall at Carleton College and played there with a jazz trio also. In this concert, Thompson will not only do rags for which he is famous but "Three Works" orchestrated by Gordon Wright with a Latin American flavor. He will end with a Eubie Blake sequence of popular melodies.
