"LITTLE WOMEN - THE MUSICAL"
Opening night November 4
Louisa May
Alcott's wonderful story of four sisters growing up during the Civil
War has been fascinating and capturing the imaginations of readers
since its first publication in 1868. The Northfield Arts Guild is
delighted to announce an outstanding musical adaptation of Little
Women. This musical, which opened on Broadway in 2005, is marvelously
adapted from the book and features wonderfully engaging music. Join us
to meet Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth as they explore the world, their
imaginations, and the reality of growing up.
The cast of
this wonderful production includes talent from the Northfield community
and from the St. Olaf campus. The cast includes Esmé Etter, Dave Flynn,
Libby Glimsdal, Greg Hilleren, Louisa Lawler, Helena Morris, Mickey
Morstad, Lily Noble, Paul Reiland, Rachel Saliares, Jaci Smith, and
Gigi Tisdale. The director for this production is Northfield's own
Mishia Burns Edwards.

SYNERGY: Four Local Artists
November 2 - December 2
November 2 -
December 2, 2011
Opening Reception: Friday, November 11, 7 pm-9 pm
Gallery Talk - Tuesday, November 15, 7 pm-8
pm
SYNERGY features work by four local artists.
Northfielders Reese Gaertner and Jan Shoger join forces with Donovan Palmquist and Colleen Riley of Farmington to exhibit artwork
inspired by natural textures, colors, and forms.
Originally
from Michigan, Reese Gaertner works mainly with natural and reclaimed
woods to create both functional and decorative objects. Donovan
Palmquist and Colleen Riley make functional pots that are largely
influenced by the prairie landscape surrounding their studio. Jan
Shoger layers various printmaking processes to add depth and complexity
to her work; in her prints, she uses the weathering processes in nature
as a metaphor for human aging. This show reveals a rich synergy between
two and three-dimensional work and the artists' overlapping ideas and
interests.
Pearl Tait shows her mixed media paintings in
"Expressions
of the Inner Self." Tait mixes acrylic paints with various
materials to build rich hues and develop unusual textures on the
surfaces of her abstract paintings.
at the Allina Clinic...
Todd Jacobs shows his photos in an exhibit at the
Allina Clinic of Northfield at 1440 Jefferson Road. Todd enjoys
framing and capturing natural scenes with his camera. Most of the
images in this exhibition were taken in Minnesota; Jacobs often takes
photographs while walking in state parks or the woods. He states,
"Many people tell me how peaceful the pictures are that I
share. They imagine themselves walking down that trail. It
inspires me to discover new places [and to] photograph them.." Oct 17 - Nov 30

Featured Artist: MARION ANGELICA
Marion Angelica is a
Minneapolis-based ceramics artist who is a resident artist and teacher
at the Northern Clay Center. "The pieces I create are meant to
participate in the times people convene to celebrate the many turning
points in our lives. This sense of celebration informs the function of
my pieces. I make work that both reminds, and hopefully entices, people
to celebrate the beauty of living."
