The Phantom Tollbooth
Final Weekend:
June 25, 26, 27
Based on the
long-popular children's book by Norton Juster, The Phantom
Tollbooth follows Milo on a journey into an imaginative land.
Milo must fight foes like The Doldrums and the Demons of
Ignorance to save Dictionopolis and Digitopolis. Aided by his
companions Tock and The Humbug, Milo strives to rescue the
Princesses Rhyme and Reason from the Castle in the Air. An
engaging retelling of this very popular story, this play is a
wonderful option for the entire family. Directed by Libby
Glimsdal and staged at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater, 411
W. 3rd Street. (photo credit: Patsy

Welcome Our
New Staff
The Arts
Guild is very excited about our two new staff members.
Carla Thompson
is managing the newly designed fine arts gift Shop.
Carla is a professional visual artist and has owned and
operated a retail art store. Her enthusiasm and expert
eye greatly enhance our unique gift shop, featuring the
work of local artists who are selected through a jury
process. Each season all art work is switched out, and
every six weeks two new artists are featured. Juliane Shibata joins
the Guild as the Gallery Coordinator. Juliane is a
ceramics artist, art advocate and educator. Juliane has
organized numerous exhibitions and presented her own
work - she has experience on both sides of the
exhibition process. The upcoming gallery season will
feature four solo shows, three invitational group shows,
the Members Show and the three annual local schools
shows. Please come in and introduce yourself to Carla
and Juliane!

Saturday
Market Fair is a Big Hit
Every
Saturday from 9-1pm the Riverwalk is alive with artists
and organic food vendors. The Market Fair is the
kick-off event of the newly formed Riverwalk Arts
Quarter. RAQ is the brainchild of Dean Kjerland, who
strongly believes there is a regional market for the
rich art community here. The Saturday Market Fair,
facilitated by Gail Jones Hanson, Brad Easterson and
Monica Caldwell, is RAQ's initial way of inviting folks
from throughout the region to our Arts Town. Dean
approached the Arts Guild nearly two years ago to be
fiscal agent and consultant in the process of developing
the RAQ, with grant support from the Southern MN
Initiative Foundation. SMIF mission is to promote
entrepreneurs; the RAQ is their first art endeavor! Join
us every Saturday to fill your life with healthy food
and excellent art. And if you are a plein-air artist
please come down to the river and share your
passion.
